LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - The University of Wyoming has formed a committee to examine the long-term sustainability of its honors program.

During the 2013-2014 academic year, the honors program enrolled 910 high-performing students. Students in the program must maintain a 3.25 grade point average and complete a senior project aside from their normal studies.

The Laramie Boomerang reports (https://bit.ly/1IFZe2Y ) that the committee was formed by David Jones, UW’s vice president for academic affairs.

The committee received several charges from Jones, but creating a long-term, comprehensive plan highlighting the costs and needs for the program’s future is the central task on the committee’s slate.

Though the program is considered well-functioning by the National Collegiate Honors Council, council members expressed worry over the program’s lack of future resources.
