HOUSTON (AP) - Houston police say an off-duty officer fatally shot a man who pointed a shotgun at him outside a gas station.
Police say the shooting happened Monday evening. The Houston Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1CCXIHY ) reports that the officer was working an approved part-time security job when he saw a disturbance near a gas pump.
The officer told investigators he saw a man holding a hammer and another man with some kind of head injury near a pickup. The officer told the man with the hammer to drop it and the man complied. The injured man then told the officer his attacker was sitting in the pickup.
Police spokesman Victor Senties says the man in the pickup then raised the gun toward the officer. The officer then shot the man.
The officer wasn’t injured.
