TANEYTOWN, Md. (AP) - A 68-year-old Taneytown woman is dead after police say she fired shots at her brother as she arrived to visit their ill mother.

Mary Glacken went to her mother’s house in Taneytown, where her brother, 47-year-old Richard Hunter, and his wife also lived, on Sunday night. But when Glacken got out of her car at the home, police say Hunter saw her take a handgun out of her purse. Police say she fired a shot into a door of the home, and fired several more rounds once inside.

That’s when police say Hunter got a shotgun and fired at Glacken. She died at the scene.

Police say investigators found a gun in Glacken’s hand and a loaded magazine in her purse.

Hunter was questioned and released Sunday night without charges.
