AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin has raised more than $700,000 to support his re-election bid.

Poliquin’s staff said Monday that the Republican’s fundraising totals for the first three months of the year beats the freshman first-quarter record set two years ago by Democratic Florida Rep. Patrick Murphy. The report covers donations made between January and the end of March.

Poliquin faces another challenge from Democrat Emily Cain in 2016.

Cain’s campaign said Monday that she raised nearly $136,000 between announcing that she would again seek the 2nd District seat on March 3 and the end of the quarter on March 31. The former state senator was defeated by Poliquin by about 5 percentage points in November.
