NEW YORK (AP) - Advocates seeking criminal justice reforms to end police brutality are making their way from New York to New Jersey as they head to the nation’s capital.

Members of the “March2Justice” event started their 250-mile walk from Staten Island to Washington on Monday morning. Officials shut down the westbound lanes on the Outerbridge Crossing for about an hour as dozens of people made their way toward Newark, where they planned to stage a rally Monday night.

The march did not pose a problem for Outerbridge traffic headed into New York.

March participants also plan to stage events in other areas along their route, including Trenton and Philadelphia. They plan to reach Washington on April 21.
