MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Record rainfall is causing flooding problems in Mobile.

The National Weather Service says the Mobile Regional Airport set a new rainfall record of 7.28 inches on Sunday. Radar estimates suggest some areas got as much as 10 inches of rain.

The total was well over the previous record of 3.61 inches for April 12. The old mark was set in 1980.

The rain left a foot of water on Airport Boulevard, and officials had to close multiple roads in southern Mobile County because of flooding. Forecasters issued a flash flood warning through midday.

The rain is spreading northward, and forecasters say heavy downpours are possible as far north as the Tennessee Valley.
