COVINGTON, La. (AP) - A St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office reserve deputy has been stripped of his commission and faces charges after he drunkenly stole a department patrol boat and crashed it into a piling outside a riverfront bar-restaurant in Madisonville.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/1FGa73V ) 39-year-old Danny Eckhart was not acting in any official capacity Saturday night when he boarded the boat docked on the Tchefuncte River and drove it downriver to T Rivers Bar and Grill.

Capt. George Bonnett says no one was injured in the crash.



Eckhart was booked with unauthorized use of a moveable and state wildlife officials booked him for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Bonnett says Eckhart is free after posting a $7,500 bond. He says Eckhart was de-commissioned as a reserve officer following the alleged incident.
