KATY, Texas (AP) - Houston-area authorities say deputies shot a man in the leg after he refused to drop his gun and opened fire at law enforcement over the weekend.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says deputies received a report of a disturbance at a Katy residence, where they found a man armed with a weapon Sunday night.

The sheriff’s office says deputies ordered the man to release his weapon. But it says the man instead fired two shots at a deputy, prompting other deputies to open fire.

The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he’s in stable condition. He’s expected to face a charge of aggravated assault on a peace officer.

An investigation is ongoing.
