RED OAK, Iowa (AP) - Red Oak Community School District’s superintendent has announced his resignation.

The Daily Nonpareil (https://bit.ly/1CPYa4A ) reports Superintendent Terry Schmidt told the school board on Thursday of his intent to resign June 30. In his resignation letter, which was released Friday, Schmidt does not give an explanation about why he is resigning.

“I have enjoyed the professional relationships forged over the past eight years with many outstanding teachers, support personnel, and leadership team members,” he wrote. “After careful thought, I have decided to quit.”

He declined to comment about his decision, and referred questions to school board president Lee Fellers. Fellers also declined to comment about the resignation.

“I don’t know. I don’t have a comment on that,” he said. “I am not going to go into personnel files or divulge any of that information.”

Schmidt’s announcement to the school board was not listed as an action item on the agenda.

Fellers said the district appreciated Schmidt’s service over the past eight years.
