ELLSWORTH, Maine (AP) - Testimony resumes this week in the trial of a man accused of killing another man, raiding the victim’s bank accounts and leading a lavish lifestyle that led to the nickname “Hundred Dollar Bill.”
Prosecutors say William Morse killed 61-year-old Richard Bellittieri and then withdrew $175,000 from the victim’s bank account, drove the victim’s car and even convinced some that he was the dead man.
The victim’s remains were found in July 2013.
Police say Bellittieri hired Morse as a carpenter and told a friend he planned to fire him.
The defense contends the case is based on circumstantial evidence and that someone else could’ve killed Bellittieri. An autopsy indicates the victim was shot four times.
