LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Work is planned that will replace a leaking underground pipeline that serves the Lansing Board of Water & Light’s downtown steam customers.

The municipal utility’s spokesman Steve Serkaian tells the Lansing State Journal (https://on.lsj.com/1HjC0yf ) the first phase of the $1.3 million project is expected to last four days and will take place near the roundabout at Michigan Avenue and Washington Square.

Work begins Monday. Serkaian says a second phase will extend work east toward Grand Avenue and last from June 1 through mid-August. Phase three will begin in mid-August near the Radisson hotel and run south. It’s expected to be finished by the end of September.

Officials say the main steam line was installed in 1924. Serkaian says the work will replace 427 feet of pipe.
