AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Authorities are searching for two men who they say walked away from a Central Texas halfway house.

Brian Anthony Whitford was convicted of bank robbery charges in 2010 and fled from the Austin Transitional Center on Thursday. Larry Anthony Egins was about three months from completing a sentence on a federal drug charge when he escaped Saturday.

Agent Hector Gomez with the U.S. Marshals says if the men are caught, they will be charged as if they escaped from a prison.

The Austin American-Statesman reports that there are no guards at the Austin-area facility. Offenders are given certain freedoms as their sentences wind down to allow them to find employment.

Anyone with information about the men’s whereabouts is asked to call authorities.
