BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Public safety officials in southwestern Michigan’s Benton Harbor plan to reschedule a public forum on use of force by police officers.

The meeting about “deadly force” was scheduled for Tuesday evening in the city commission chambers. Officials say it’s been canceled, however, due to illness of the presenter. The event is expected to be rescheduled at a later date.

Benton Harbor public safety officials say the department wants an open dialogue with the community to build “a spirit of trust and cooperation” between citizens and police.

A forum on police vehicle pursuits is scheduled May 12.
