GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A Pitt County detention officer has been fired from her job after authorities accused her of having sex with inmates.

WITN in Greenville reports (https://bit.ly/1DfjELB ) that jail records show Billie Cruz is charged with two counts of sex offense at an institution. The county says Cruz was fired on Monday after working for the sheriff’s office since August 2007.

Sheriff Neil Elks says the offenses occurred during the past six weeks. Warrants say the inmate was in jail for an armed robbery.

Cruz is free from the Pitt County jail after posting a $25,000 bond. It’s not known if she has an attorney.
