EAST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - An East Haven woman has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against a town police officer, accusing him of age discrimination that she says led to the loss of her driver’s license following an incident at a supermarket parking lot.

The New Haven Register reports (https://bit.ly/1crCart ) that Virginia Klump is suing officer Robert S. Brockett. The 74-year-old Klump says Brockett falsely accused her of hitting a car with her vehicle in in a parking lot Feb. 24. She says the officer refused to return her license.

John. R. Williams, Klump’s lawyer, called it “nothing less than age discrimination.”

Town Attorney Joseph Zullo said the initial lawsuit was filed 72 hours after the incident, which he called a “peculiar speed.”

He says East Haven is vigorously contesting the allegations.
