BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - A Southeast Texas school district will get a new superintendent as it works to recover from financial issues and emerge from state oversight.

John Frossard (fruh-SARD’) was selected Monday night by the state-appointed board of managers running the Beaumont Independent School District.

Frossard, who’s superintendent of the Wichita Falls ISD, faces a 21-day waiting period before formally being hired in Beaumont.

Texas Education Commissioner Michael Williams last July named Vern Butler as interim superintendent and announced a new board would take over BISD management. The district, with nearly 21,000 students, was investigated over finances and its services to disabled students.

An ex-school district warehouse supervisor was sentenced Monday to nearly three years in prison over a payroll scam.
