EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Another Indiana community is expressing its disapproval of the state’s new religious objections law.

The Evansville City Council voted unanimously Monday to pass a resolution opposing the law.

Councilman Johnathan Weaver worked on the resolution. He tells WFIE-TV (https://bit.ly/1DDqaNS ) that he hopes state lawmakers will consider repealing the law, which opponents contend could lead to discrimination against gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people.

Weaver says the law is a step in the wrong direction and could damage the state’s economy, even though clarifying language meant to prevent discrimination has been added.

The New Albany City Council passed a similar resolution last week, and the Muncie City Council and the Delaware County commissioners approved resolutions affirming that their communities are welcoming regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
