HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - Hampton police say one person died and two people remain hospitalized following a series of weekend overdoses.

Police are investigating whether the overdoses on spice, or synthetic marijuana, are related.

Police say five men and two women overdosed at six locations between 6:05 p.m. Saturday and 7:27 p.m. on Sunday.

A 47-year-old Hampton woman was pronounced dead shortly after she was taken to a local hospital. One man and the other woman remain hospitalized in serious condition.

Police say the use of spice is dangerous but isn’t illegal in Virginia.
