HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - A lack of enough parking around the County Court Square in Hernando is impairing business, merchants complain, prompting a meeting this week between city and county officials to seek solutions.

The Commercial Appeal reports (https://bit.ly/1DYF7fx ) turf is at the heart of the matter. City and county workers park around the square, and because of this, business owners say patrons who want to make a quick trip into their shops are being squeezed out.

The county controls the historic square’s inner ring of parking; the city the outer ring. There’s no strict enforcement as to who parks where: County and city workers park in both rings, as do the public.

Mayor Chip Johnson says a committee will meet with county officials this week to seek a solution of the parking problem.
