Man pleads not guilty by reason of insanity in hammer death

YANKTON, S.D. (AP) - A man accused of killing his uncle in Yankton last year has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Joshua Hudson is accused of using a hammer to kill 46-year-old Todd Hudson on March 7, 2014. He could face life in prison if convicted.

The Daily Press and Dakotan reports (https://bit.ly/1DYUSTH ) that trial is to begin July 27 on charges of second-degree homicide, aggravated assault and grand theft.

Hudson is to undergo a third psychiatric exam before trial. An exam done earlier for the defense concluded that Hudson is not mentally competent. A second exam done for the state was inconclusive.
