MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A 33-year-old Muncie man charged in a woman’s 2009 stabbing death has asked to return to prison instead of awaiting trial in jail.

Danny Saintignon Jr. filed a motion Friday withdrawing his request earlier this month for a speedy trial. He was granted a new trial date of Aug. 10 on Monday, and asked if he could return to prison, where he’s serving a 23-year prison term imposed last year for his role in a 2013 armed invasion.

Saintignon is charged with murder, robbery resulting in serious bodily injury and conspiracy to commit burglary resulting in serious bodily injury. He’s accused of fatally stabbing 35-year-old Monica Brown on Dec. 24, 2009, after entering her home to rob her of prescription medications.

The (Muncie) Star Press (https://tspne.ws/1PDZdi1 ) reports Saintignon will soon be assigned a public defender.
