CONGERS, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a Rockland County man has been charged with second-degree murder in the beating death of his father.

According to the Journal News (https://lohud.us/1O9zDhk ), police said the victim, 61-year-old Ismael Alicea, was struck in the head with a blunt object. He was found unresponsive in a bedroom of his Congers home and declared dead just before 6 a.m. Monday.

Steven Alicea entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment. The judge granted a request from his court-appointed attorney that Alicea undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

He’s being held without bail.

Until his retirement in 2009, Ismael Alicea worked at The New York Public Library in New York City for 36 years. He was associate director of adult education and outreach.
