ST. LOUIS (AP) - Nine people have been treated for smoke inhalation after fire broke out in a midtown St. Louis apartment building.

The fire started around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday at the seven-story Metropolitan Village Apartments. About 60 residents were evacuated.

Three people were hospitalized, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but firefighters believe smoking in bed was the likely culprit.
