SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - City leaders in South Bend are considering whether or not to ban motorists from handling cellphones while driving.
WNDU-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1O9KpnK ) the proposal is eligible for a public hearing and final vote on April 27. The measure would create a city-wide ban except for emergencies. It would allow talking on cellphones as long as you’re not using your hands, such as with a Blue Tooth or device connected to the vehicle.
South Bend 2nd District Councilman Henry Davis Jr. says if South Bend wants to be a “first class city we have to start doing things that are first class.”
Indiana does not ban handling cellphones while driving. The state does ban texting behind the wheel.
