COLUBMUS, Ohio (AP) - Speedway says it plans to hire hundreds of workers at its gas stations in central Ohio as the summer travel season ramps up.

The Columbus Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1OusbQ0 ) the company is looking to hire at least 100 managers and 400 customer-service representatives or food-service workers for its 120 stores throughout central Ohio.

A Speedway recruiter says the company has a hiring event every spring, but this year’s hiring is even more robust thanks to a stronger economy.

Gas prices are running at least $1 per gallon lower than they were a year ago, which economists say could lead to more domestic summer travel and spending within the gas station stores.

The company plans to hold interviews throughout central Ohio within the next week.
