SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) - The school superintendent in Springfield, Oregon, has resigned after less than two years on the job.
The Register-Guard newspaper (https://is.gd/g3yTkk ) that Hertica Martin announced her decision at a school board meeting Monday night. Martin said she was leaving “with great reluctance,” but wanted to move closer to her husband. He lives in Olympia, Washington.
Martin earns $137,500 annually and will receive a severance payment of $68,750. Her last day on the job is June 30, but an agreement with the district gives her unlimited time from work to search for new employment.
The school board has met several times in closed-door sessions this month to discuss Martin’s evaluation. Last summer, board members applauded Martin for spending her first year learning about the district and its budget.
