ST. LOUIS (AP) - Hikaru Nakamura of St. Louis has won the U.S. Chess Championship for the fourth time in his career.
He will receive a $45,000 prize for winning the competition held at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center in St. Louis. Nakamura is ranked third in the world but has been ranked atop U.S. players for about five years.
Ray Robson, a player from Webster University, won $30,000 for second place.
Irina Krush of New York won the U.S. Women’s Chess competition, claiming the title for the seventh time and the fourth consecutive year. She will receive a $20,000 prize.
