WATERBURY, Vt. (AP) - Work is getting underway on a new municipal complex in the town of Waterbury.
On Monday, Gov. Peter Shumlin, U.S. Rep. Peter Welch and local leaders broke ground on the new town office and library complex that will add to an historic house on North Main Street.
The $5 million project comes more than three years after flooding from Tropical Storm Irene made the community’s municipal offices unusable.
Community recovery leader Barbara Farr says the project is being funded with a $2.95 million bond, $1.25 million in state grants and nearly $1 million in private fundraising.
The Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1GE2zPv ) reports Waterbury employees are scheduled to move in around the same time Vermont state employees are due to begin moving into the new state office complex, also in Waterbury.
