FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a man is dead after a solo-car crash in Fairfax County.

Police say the man who died was a passenger in a 1995 BMW that crashed around 7:15 a.m. Saturday. Police say the vehicle was traveling south on Richmond Highway when it drifted off the roadway and up onto a curb, then struck a fire hydrant and a phone pole.

Police say the vehicle’s 23-year-old driver is hospitalized in stable condition. Police do not believe speed was a factor in the crash but are investigating whether alcohol may be involved. Police say charges are pending against the driver who is from Oxon Hill, Maryland.

Police identified the car’s passenger as Daniel Duarte Vasquez of the Alexandria area. They say he was not wearing his seatbelt. The driver was.
