ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Advertising representatives from Hermes Publications and The Virginian-Pilot were announced Saturday as winners of the Virginia Press Association’s awards for outstanding sales professional and outstanding young sales professional.

The awards were presented at the association’s annual meeting in Roanoke.

Helen McDaniels, who represents the Dinwiddie Monitor, the Sussex-Surry Dispatch and the Prince George Journal for Hermes, was named Outstanding Sales Professional of the year.

“Helene serves as the only ad director for three newspapers and is able to provide professional customer service with a personal edge connecting with each of her customers,” says Evan Jones. “Helene knows which clients prefer a lighter approach with a joking demeanor and those who expect a more refined business style, and in every case she delivers, on point.

Molly Gray, of The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, was named Outstanding Young Sales Professional of the Year.

“Fueled by passion, Cliff bars, and sugar-free Red Bull, Molly’s desire to win on behalf of her customers has been her magic ingredient for successfully reigniting one of the toughest territories” says Kelly Till, advertising director. Her colleagues say she “is a breath of fresh air each and every day and truly loves what she does and that makes all the difference.”
