PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Three Paterson men are headed to prison for their roles in a shootout that left two people dead and another wounded.

Passaic County prosecutors say 34-year-old Rondell Goodwin received a 16-year sentence, while 26-year-old Justin Dennison got a 10-year term. Both had pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the January 2012 death of 25-year-old Dashon Adamson, who was killed along with 22-year-old Taheem Taylor.

Goodwin’s 25-year-old brother, Marvin Goodwin, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and received a 5-year sentence.

The Record (https://bit.ly/1DlhAyP) reports that Adamson’s mother sharply criticized the sentences handed out Friday. She said the men should have received life sentences.

Authorities have said the shootout stemmed from an ongoing dispute between two groups, noting that “dozens and dozens” of shots were fired.
