TIGARD, Ore. (AP) - About 300 households, a few businesses and several apartment complexes and condominiums in Tigard are being advised to boil their drinking water.

The city’s boil advisory is in place through Sunday afternoon. It was prompted by a pump that failed briefly Friday evening, causing a drop in pressure in the Canterbury area of the city.

Officials say the pump was repaired and the system is now functioning normally. The advisory was issued as a precaution because the drop in water pressure could have allowed bacterial contaminants to enter the water system.

The city will collect water samples on Saturday and results are expected by Sunday.

Tap water used for drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth, washing dishes and making ice should be boiled.
