YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) - Women serving in state and local government are set to talk about encouraging more female candidates in New York.
State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins is one of the officeholders expected to participate in the Monday night event at the Riverfront Public Library in Yonkers. Stewart-Cousins is the leader of the Democratic minority in the state Senate.
Other panelists include state Democratic Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer.
Organizers note that women make up half of the state’s population but only hold about a quarter of the seats in the state Legislature.
