MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - Two kayakers escaped injury after their kayaks got caught in dam waters on the Winnebago River.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1G5Tw9Y ) that the incident happened near the 12th Street Northeast bridge early Friday afternoon.
Police Sgt. Tiffany Creekmur says the kayakers managed to get out of the water - possibly with help from another person - before police arrived.
The pair were not taken to a hospital. Medics with the Mason City Fire Department checked them out at the scene.
Creekmur says the two got in the undertow of the dam. They were wearing lifejackets.
