PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Portland’s police chief will step in as acting city manager as Maine’s largest city continues its search for a permanent manager.

The City Council is expected to formally appoint Michael Sauschuck at its April 27 meeting. He’s replacing another acting manager, Sheila Hill-Christian, who departs for a job in Cincinnati on May 8.

Hill-Christian has been serving since last summer when Mark Rees abruptly announced his resignation after three years on the job.

Sauschuck says he’s stepping in to help out. He told the Portland Press Herald that he has no intention of throwing his hat in the ring for the permanent position.
