ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a man was arrested after accidentally sending an undercover officer a text message about a marijuana deal.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s office said 23-year-old Brendon Ward of Elizabethtown thought he was sending a text to someone who wanted to buy drugs, according to The Fayetteville Observer (https://bit.ly/1DTggb2 ).

A news release said the message was sent last weekend to an undercover narcotics officer who replied pretending to be a buyer.

The officer arranged to have other lawmen with him. The news release says the suspect realized what was happening and fled.

He later turned himself in and was charged Thursday with conspiring to sell marijuana and other charges.

He was initially held on $3,000 bail. The Bladen County Jail said he was out by Saturday but didn’t know if he had a lawyer.

No phone listing for Ward could be found.
