TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) - The King County Sheriff’s Office has lost a valued member of its force. A K-9 named Jimmy was struck and killed by a vehicle along State Route 599 in South Park.

The 2-year-old black German Shepherd had been working with the sheriff’s office since November 2014. He was not tracking at the time he was struck.

Officials say Deputy Travis Brunner and his partner Jimmy were at Cecile Moses Park in Tukwila at about 1 a.m. Saturday getting some exercise while on shift. Jimmy had his harness and strobe light on but got through a break in the fence and onto the highway. He was struck by a semi-truck.
