HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Huntington Mayor Steve Williams says the region’s deadly drug addiction problem is “truly frightening.”
Citing rising reports of drug overdoses, Huntington officials say they must rethink strategies to address the problem.
The State Journal (https://bit.ly/1FV8F8T ) reports that those approaches include a bigger police presence, more community involvement and broader treatment opportunities.
According to Williams, there have been more than 400 overdoses in Cabell County in the first four months of 2015. Of those, 24 were fatal.
Williams says at that pace, the county could see more than 700 overdoses in 2015.
He says drug addiction is the single most important issue facing the region.
