SHELBY, N.C. (AP) - This summer’s American Legion World Series is kicking off in Shelby with a concert by county music singer and North Carolina native Kellie Pickler.
The Shelby Star reports (https://bit.ly/1G9qkPk ) Pickler will headline a show the Saturday before the start of the 10-day tournament that annually draws some of the country’s best teenage baseball players. Total paid attendance for last summer’s games was 110,000.
Pickler is a native of Albemarle, about 90 miles east of Shelby. She rose to national attention by appearing in 2006 on the television show “American Idol.”
A concert tied to the World Series was scuttled in 2013 when the roof over the stage collapsed in a storm hours before the show. No one was hurt.
