MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife says the spring stocking of trout and salmon in lakes, ponds and rivers across the state is underway.

The department says that more than 1 million fish, fry and fingerlings, including more than 18,000 trophy trout, will be stocked in Vermont waters this year.

The department’s fish culture operations manager Adam Miller says the department will stock nearly 18,500 large, two-year old trout across Vermont. He says it will offer anglers a change to catch the fish of a lifetime.

Lake Champlain is scheduled to be stocked with over 434,000 landlocked Atlantic salmon, steelhead rainbow trout, brown trout and lake trout - including fry and fingerlings.
