MASTADON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 70-year-old woman has died after accidentally falling about 40 feet from a cliff at Horse Race Rapids in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Police say the woman identified as Sandra Waldo of Crystal Falls was taken from the scene Saturday in Iron County’s Mastodon Township and had fatal internal injuries.

The rapids are located on the Paint River. MLive.com reports Waldo was hiking with family along the river when she slipped and fell about 40 feet.

State police, the Iron County sheriff department and local rescue crews were involved in the response. The death is under investigation.
