ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has started a cold case investigation into the slaying almost 40 years ago of the night clerk at a convenience store that no longer exists.

Deputies say 35-year-old Barbara Soper made a call for help while working at the old 7-Eleven store on Garden Valley Boulevard in the early morning hours of January 13th, 1977. Voices could be heard in the background. But when police arrived, they found her dead behind the checkout counter.

That convenience store has since been torn down, and a larger store built on the lot.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cold Case Unit at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
