CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - Hendrix College has inaugurated its 11th president during a weekend ceremony on its campus in Conway.

Faculty, students and alumni from as far back as the Class of 1937 attended the Saturday outdoor gathering to watch 51-year-old William “Bill” Tsutsui accept the position.

Tsutsui spoke about the school’s need to stress accessibility, affordability, diversity and inclusion, while also noting that it has the highest retention and graduation rates in the state.

Board Chairman David Knight says Tsutsui already has done a great job since being named president in June.

Tsutsui, a Texas native, holds several degrees including a Ph.D. in history from Princeton University. He was the dean of Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences at Southern Methodist University from 2010 to 2014.
