TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Kellex Seating is opening a commercial upholstered seating factory in Tupelo, planning to hire 75 workers.

State officials announced the plant Monday. Taking over the former Tupelo Manufacturing plant, Kellex has been in testing since March and hopes to reach full production this summer.

Based in North Ridgeville, Ohio, Kellex also has a plant in Valdese, North Carolina.

The company will invest $600,000, while the state is providing $200,000 in infrastructure money. Tupelo is contributing a $20,000 match for state funds.

Mississippi Development Authority says workers will make $30,800 a year, on average.

Kellex officials say demand from hotels and condominiums for the company’s furniture is growing, and say Mississippi’s experienced upholstery workforce makes the site attractive. They say Tupelo provides good access to West Coast markets, cutting delivery times.
