OCEANSIDE, Calif. (AP) - A Marine is facing assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery charges after a threat to his girlfriend ended with a six-hour standoff with a police SWAT team.

The U-T San Diego reports (https://bit.ly/1zCxKD6 ) that Saturday evening a woman reported her boyfriend, who was upset about his upcoming military discharge, had pointed a gun at her head and threatened to kill her. The woman wrestled the weapon away and barricaded herself in the bathroom to call 911.

Officers surrounded the home until early Sunday morning. Oceanside Police Lt. George Darrah said the man threatened to shoot at a police vehicle and claimed to have an assault rifle. A shotgun and a semi-automatic pistol were seized from the residence.

The man was booked into Vista jail on suspicion of assault.
