COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Crime Victims’ Council is holding a ceremony to open its garden to honor crime victims and reflect on their lives.

The garden at Columbia’s Riverfront Park will open with a candlelight vigil and ceremony Monday evening.

The garden includes a path with memorial bricks and a fountain.

The organization’s director Laura Hudson says she wanted to give people a beautiful place to reflect and find peace, She says victims and their families need a tranquil place when confronted with the chaos of crime.
