NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Police say a New Orleans man arrested on drug and weapons charges has escaped custody and is on the run.

WVUE-TV (https://bit.ly/1aJkHtd ) reports 28-year-old Eddie Brown escaped from central lock up after wriggling out of handcuffs early Sunday morning before he was booked. Police say Brown was arrested for possessing heroin, crack and marijuana as well as an illegal gun charge.

Police originally identified Brown as 32-year-old Darrel Williams but think he gave officers a fake name.

Brown had a cast put on his right arm at a local hospital. He had been handcuffed and placed on a bench before managing to escape.

The suspect is still at large.
