FAIRDALE, Ill. (AP) - Northern Illinois University’s football team has lent a hand to cleanup efforts after a deadly tornado in the nearby town of Fairdale.
The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1GaqTpi ) reports that nearly 100 Northern Illinois University football players and coaches climbed off of three buses in Fairdale on Saturday to help residents. A tornado earlier this month destroyed or damaged dozens of buildings and left two people dead in the area.
The team and coaches helped clear yards and carry away fallen tree limbs and scrap metal. Players said they felt it was important to help out because they realized that such a disaster could easily hit their own hometowns too.
