CORNWALL-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (AP) - State police are searching for a Poughkeepsie man who capsized while kayaking in rough weather on the Hudson River in Orange County.

State police in Middletown say Angelika Graswald and Vincent Viafore of Poughkeepsie were kayaking on the river around 7:30 Sunday evening in choppy water and strong winds. Viafore’s kayak overturned and Graswald called 911, then tried to help. She fell out of her own kayak and was later rescued by a boater.

State police and local marine patrols and fire departments searched for Viafore by boat and helicopter until late Sunday night and resumed Monday morning in Cornwall-on-Hudson, about 50 miles north of New York City. Police say Viafore wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

Graswald was treated for hypothermia at a local hospital. Both kayaks were recovered.
