COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - A man accused in the shooting death of another man during a birthday party last year in Columbus has made his initial court appearance.

WTVM-TV (https://bit.ly/1HKomnQ ) reports Otis Perry was formally charged Saturday in the death of Marquise Shivers. Perry is charged with killing Shivers after a fight broke out during a birthday party in December 2014.

Police say Perry turned himself in Friday and is now in the Muscogee County jail.

It is not known if Shivers and Perry knew each other.

At the time of the hearing, Perry said he has not obtained a lawyer. He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on April 22.
